the whale

Whale, 2022

A white canvas to create on. An oddly sahpped dinning table.

Based on the predictable movement arround the living and dinning rooms, this organic shaped table was meant to host 10 to 12 people. Gathering people in a different position, aiming for a closest way to connect and interact, with no “blind” spots. The round shapped, whale shaped, made this a bold and unique piece.

It’s production took more than 2 months, with a lot of trial and error, as it’s supposed to be.

The top is made out of 3 French Oak slabs, with more than 8 years air drying, with two ends prependicular to the grain, to avoid movement and provide stability, with no visible joinery. The inverted V shape base was thought to hold the almost 200kg top, and to allow enough leg room for this to be, not only a piece by itself, but design.

Dimensions: 2600x1600x740mm.

Material: french Oak.

Signed.
